Together, we are pledging a total of $5 billion over the next 10 years to protect and conserve at least 30% of the planet's most important places for biodiversity by 2030 ('30x30'). This goal is in line with scientific research which indicates that conservation in the right places could protect up to 80% of plant and animal species and secure 60% of the carbon stocks and 66% of clean water sources.

We must come together to protect our planet and secure our future. The new alliance will work with indigenous peoples, local communities, civil society and governments. It will support the creation, expansion and management of protected and conserved areas of land and sea, recognizing the knowledge of local communities and indigenous peoples and their guardianship of their lands.

The challenges we are facing require us to set ambitious goals, and these require a substantial increase in finance. Together, we are calling other private donors to join us and we are calling governments to adopt the 30x30 goal and commit to at least double funding to support it.

Private donors have a role to play, but this goal requires the commitment of all governments and of the communities that manage some of the world’s most biodiverse landscapes.
