Who we are
Arcadia is a family charitable foundation. Arcadia was founded by Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin in 2002. Arcadia is led by our donor board, supported by an expert advisory board and a small London-based team. Arcadia is funded by family trusts. We make grants via Arcadia Philanthropic Trust, a charitable trust in Liechtenstein. Our work at Arcadia complements that of Lund Trust, which supports work that greens people’s lives in the UK.

How we work
We are led by our donor board and rely on the expertise of our team, advisory board and networks to develop our strategy and grantmaking. We don’t accept applications for funding but individuals and organizations can apply to programmes that we support. We ask that all materials resulting from our grants be made freely available online.

Report fraudulent activity
If you doubt the authenticity of any correspondence claiming to be from the Arcadia board or team, please email us at info@arcadiafund.org.uk. This will alert us to any potentially fraudulent correspondence or scams and allow us to investigate. The amount of fraudulent correspondence claiming to be from or associated with charitable funds like Arcadia is growing. Scams can be quite sophisticated, and can be by email, post, fax, telephone or other means. They can include a logo, images, information or links associated with our work.

Open Access
We want knowledge to be free for anyone, anywhere to access and use. Access to knowledge is a fundamental human right. It advances research and innovation, improves decision-making, exposes misinformation and is vital to achieving greater equality and justice. The internet has transformed how we share, find and use information. However, some materials that should legally and morally be free for anyone to access are still constrained by paywalls and restrictive copyright regimes. Our grants help make this information available for free online, and help people find and use it.

Grants awarded
You can search below for information about all grants we awarded. Our grants data is also available in xlsx format here. We are committed to transparency, and believe that with better information, grant-makers can be more effective decision makers. In 2017 we started to work with 360Giving to publish information about Arcadia grants. Arcadia has waived all copyright and related or neighbouring rights to Arcadia’s grant data, to the extent possible under law, by dedicating it to the public domain with the Creative Commons CC0 waiver. This means the data is freely accessible to anyone to use and share.

Nature
We want to help nature survive and flourish. Wildlife loss and environmental destruction threaten all life. Conserving and restoring whole ecosystems helps keep nature resilient to climate change and human exploitation. Our grants support solutions to the global biodiversity and climate crises. We fund international programmes of work that create local partnerships to sustain and revive nature and support laws and policies that recognize the value of a healthy environment. We don’t support species-specific conservation, education, or awareness-raising projects.

Culture
We want future generations to have knowledge of the world’s cultural diversity. Cultures change over time. Much of the world’s cultural heritage is poorly documented and may become invisible to future generations. Our grants support the digital documentation of cultural heritage that is poorly recorded and under threat. They create partnerships with local organizations and institutions to secure long-term preservation and free access to the records in line with the FAIR and CARE principles for data.
